Days Until Birthday — Countdown by Date of Birth
The wait until your birthday is the number of days from today to the next time your birth day and month appear on the calendar. Enter your date of birth below to see the days remaining, the exact date it lands on and the age you will be turning.

How the countdown is built
The calculator ignores your birth year entirely and looks only at the day and month. It builds that date in the current year and checks it against today: still ahead, and it counts to it; already gone, and it rebuilds the date in the following year and counts to that instead.
The result is a count of whole calendar days, which is why it changes at midnight rather than at the hour you were born. On the day itself the answer is zero, not one.
The February 29 case
A leap day exists only in years divisible by four, minus the centurial years that are not divisible by 400 — the rule the U.S. Naval Observatory states for the Gregorian calendar. That leaves people born on February 29 with a date that vanishes three years out of four.
The convention used here is to fall back to February 28 in common years, so the countdown always has a target and never skips a year. Every fourth year the real date returns. Some American families mark March 1 instead, on the reasoning that the baby was born after February ended; both customs are in use, and neither changes the age you are turning, which comes from the birth date itself.
Your birthday drifts one weekday a year
A common year is 365 days, and 365 divided by 7 leaves a remainder of one. So a birthday that fell on a Tuesday falls on a Wednesday next year — unless a February 29 sits in between, in which case it jumps two weekdays and skips Wednesday altogether.
| Years ahead | Weekday shift |
|---|---|
| after a common year | 1 day later |
| after a year containing February 29 | 2 days later |
That drift is why a birthday returns to the same weekday in a repeating pattern rather than every seven years flat. Anyone hoping for a Saturday birthday can work the shift forward a few years and find the next one.
Other things to count from the same date
The countdown to a birthday and the count since the last one are two ends of the same year. For the second, the age calculator gives years, months and days, and age in days turns the whole life into one running total — useful for spotting when a round number like 10,000 days is about to arrive.

Frequently asked questions
How many days are left until my birthday?
Count forward from today to the next time your birth day and month come around. If this year's date has already passed, the count runs to next year's. Enter your date of birth above and the countdown appears right away.
What happens if today is my birthday?
The countdown shows zero and says so. From tomorrow it starts counting toward next year's date.
How is a February 29 birthday handled?
In years without a February 29, the countdown targets February 28 so the date does not disappear from the calendar. Every fourth year it lands on the 29th again.
Does the countdown include leap days?
Yes. It walks real calendar days, so a February 29 sitting between today and your birthday adds one day to the total.
Why is the number sometimes 365 and sometimes 366?
Because a full lap of the calendar contains a leap day roughly one year in four. If February 29 falls inside the twelve months ahead of you, the wait is 366 days rather than 365.
